QASR OULED SOLTAN
The Oulad Sultan Palace is an architectural and historical masterpiece, located about 20 kilometers from the city of Tataouine in southern Tunisia
The Oulad Sultan Palace was built as a fortified granary, constructed by Berbers in the 15th century to protect it from Bedouin attacks. It is divided into two courtyards surrounded by rooms distributed on different floors
Wannas Maalla, the regional delegate for culture in Tataouine, said: “Maintenance and contracting are not enough, these palaces, monuments and heritage treasures in Tataouine must be included in the economic, tourism and cultural spheres. The Oulad Sultan Palace will soon be restored
The palace was used to store grain and olives, as well as provide shelter from the intense heat of the Sahara Desert
Oulad Sultan Palace was used as a backdrop for filming in the Star Wars movie series, and the palace turned into a village where the protagonist, Anakin, lived with his mother.
