Celebrating National Traditional Dress Day

Like other governorates, the governorate of Tataouine celebrates the National Day of Traditional Dress annually on March 16th. This annual national occasion is celebrated by the Agency for the Revival of Heritage and Cultural Development, highlighting the importance of traditional Tunisian dress as one of the most important components of our country’s intangible cultural heritage.
A number of public institutions, schools, universities, and kindergartens have taken to celebrating this day by wearing traditional Tunisian dress.
This celebration emphasizes the importance of this heritage passed down through generations and the need to value and preserve it.
This year, the day coincides with Sunday, a weekly holiday in Tunisia. This has led some Tunisians to postpone wearing traditional dress in public institutions, schools, universities, and kindergartens until Monday.
