The old Ksar (Zenata Ksar)

The old Ksar or Zenata Ksaris located in the area known as the southern Maztouriya district of the northern Tataouine delegation. The palace was founded on a hill and the importance of the site prompted the inhabitants at different times to establish several Ksours near it, such as the Awadid Ksar and the Ouled Aoun Ksar in the eastern part and the Dghara and Rkhaisa Ksours in the southwestern part. It appears from the name Zenana that it was exploited by the Berber Zenata tribe, some of whose descendants still reside near the Ksar in the southwestern part. As for the name of the old Ksar, it is due to the fact that, in the eyes of the inhabitants, it is the oldest Ksar of the surrounding Ksours. The Ksar occupies the shape of an irregular rectangle with a total area of 2560 m2. The palace consists of a shed, a courtyard and rooms on all facades. The shed is the main entrance to the Ksar and its architecture resembles the architecture of the entrances to Islamic cities. It is domed and its arch is about 3 meters high and 2.1 meters wide. The shed is 7 meters high.
